  1. Are donations made on my behalf tax deductible?

    Yes, all donations in which goods or services are not received are 100 percent tax deductible.
  2. Will Lurie Children’s Foundation acknowledge my contributors?

    The Foundation will send a gift receipt and acknowledgement letter to anyone who makes a donation on behalf of a Circle of Friends fundraiser.

  3. How can my supporters make a donation?

    The fastest and easiest way for your supporters to make a donation on your behalf is to refer them to the personal fundraising page you create on the Circle of Friends website. If they prefer, they can write a check to Lurie Children’s Foundation with your name on the memo line and mail it to:

  4. Can I use Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago’s Tax Exemption number?

    Because Lurie Children’s is not hosting your event, it is considered a third-party event. For this reason, you will not be able to use the hospital‘s IRS 501(c)(3) charitable classification, federal tax ID number or tax-exempt certificate. However, you may use the hospital tax ID number for donation purposes only. Please call 312.227.7500 and ask for a member of the Finance Department.

  5. What online fundraising tools are offered to Circle of Friends Fundraisers?

    The first step is personalizing your personal fundraising page on the Circle of Friends website! We provide you with a step-by-step guide, along with other online fundraising resources, on our Fundraising Tips page.

  6. How can I check my personal and/or event fundraising totals?

    You can track your fundraising efforts via your participant center. Log in and review your pledges any time of the day. When a donation is made online, it is processed automatically and added to your fundraising total. Donations made by check or money order will be processed and counted toward your total within 10 business days after it is received by Lurie Children’s Foundation.

  7. How can I find out if my company offers a matching gift?

    First, check to see if your company has a matching gift program for health organizations. Our matching gifts finder can be helpful in determining which companies match donations. Complete a matching gift form (available from your company’s Human Resources) and send it in with your donation.

  8. What areas of the hospital will my donations support?

    There are many pediatric specialties, programs and services at the hospital that your donation can support.

Fundraising Event Logistics

  1. Can you help me get a permit for my event?

    The organization and execution of the event is the responsibility of its event organizer. The event organizer must obtain any necessary permits or licenses.

  2. Who will provide insurance for my event?

    Lurie Children’s cannot provide insurance for third-party events. The event organizer is responsible for obtaining insurance for the event.

  3. How do I open a bank account for my event?

    If a separate bank account is being established by a third party for an event, it must be opened in the third party’s name. Lurie Children’s policies do not permit a third party to establish a bank account in the name of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. The event organizer is responsible for all event expenses.

  4. Can someone from the foundation or hospital attend or help plan our event?

    Because of the large number of events and the limited number of staff, foundation and hospital staff members are generally unable to attend and plan Circle of Friends events. We are happy to provide guidance, but we do not have the staff to handle the organizational and administrative tasks associated with third-party events.


  1. Can we have a check presentation at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago?

    Yes, we can arrange for a check presentation in the hospital lobby or at the Foundation. Please email Circle of Friends to schedule a time.

  2. Can I share my fundraising experience with the community?

    Yes! We love to share all fundraisers with the community. Please send fundraising photos and experiences to your COF team member, or post them on our Circle of Friends Facebook page.
