STEP UP FOR KIDS
25 years and countless lives changed.
At Aon Step Up for Kids, presented by KPMG, every step taken and dollar raised supports the Department of Family Services at Lurie Children’s so that kids are happy and families are supported. For 25 years, our community has stepped up to ensure Lurie Children’s can provide programs like pet therapy, school services and art and music therapy. Join us for a special 25th anniversary celebration at this year’s Step Up for Kids! The event will feature an outdoor climb at beautiful Guaranteed Rate Field! Participants will climb rows of seats and ramps up to the upper deck to enjoy skyline and ballfield views. There will be climb options for all abilities followed by food, drinks, music and more!

PATIENT CHAMPION
Every year, a Lurie Children’s patient takes the first steps and serves as our inspiration.
In honor of the 25th anniversary of Step Up for Kids, we will recognize and celebrate the incredible patient champions who have shared their stories and inspired so many of us over the years.
Last year's patient champion was Jaquez. A high school senior who started missing school due to a persistent cough. Jaquez visited Lurie Children‘s in hopes of finding a remedy, but several rounds of scans and tests revealed that his heart was in critical condition. He needed a transplant. As he waited for a heart on the Cardiac Care Unit, the COVID-19 pandemic began — limiting family visits. Jaquez kept his spirits up with musical therapy and visits from George, an activity coordinator in the Panda Cares Center of Hope. Jaquez underwent a successful transplant in June, and returned home two weeks later. Today, Jaquez is enrolled in virtual classes at Southern Illinois University, with hopes of pursuing a career that incorporates music education and business.
